Only couples can adopt from China . We partner with another agency’s China program. For a child to be eligible for adoption, children from China must be identified and approved by the CCAA (China Center of Adoption Affairs), in Beijing . The child is matched to the prospective adoptive family by the CCAA after they receive the completed application/dossier that has been submitted by the licensed U.S. adoption agency. The children available are basically healthy, but due to conditions in the orphanages, they may have mild developmental delays and may be slightly malnourished, but with TLC (tender loving care), and the American diet, these children thrive and do well. At time of referral, you will receive photographs, medical, developmental and psychosocial information on the child. We highly recommend an International Physician be consulted to review the medical - - we will provide you with a list of physicians, but you may use whoever you feel most comfortable with. As of May 2007, the eligibility requirements to adopt from China are:
We are here to walk you through the maze of paperwork which will become your dossier. We are always available to our families as we feel an open line of communication is crucial while on your adoption journey. The wait for referral after the dossier has been accepted at the CCAA is approximately 16 to 17 months. The time span can get longer. Where we differ from other programs is that we do not wait on a group of families to receive referrals so they can travel together. Approximately 3 – 4 weeks after acceptance of the referral, we will provide you with your itinerary. We pride ourselves as a personal touch agency. We prefer both husband and wife to travel for the child, but if this is not possible, the traveling spouse has a Power of Attorney to act on behalf of his/her spouse. In China , you will have an English Time spent in China is approximately 12 days. Your US Embassy appointment in Guangzhou for the child's Visa will be arranged prior to your departure to China . It is usually on a Tuesday and then on Wednesday you pick up the child’s Visa - - leave for home on Thursday. Your child will return home on the IR-3 Visa provided both traveled, and the child will be an automatic US citizen once on American soil. When the child is home, two supervised post-placement reports are required; one 6 months after the child is placed with you and the second one, in another 6 months. These are done by a certified social worker. It is our goal to find loving and stable homes for orphaned children in China .
